Don’t Call It a Comeback
Lee has been anything but idle during his time away from competition. In his two year absence from professional fighting, Christian experienced both professional growth and personal tragedy. In December 2022, Lee’s younger sister Victoria, also a promising MMA fighter, tragically passed away at the age of 18. This devastating loss profoundly impacted Christian and his family and led Christian to take time away from competition to grieve and heal.
Renewed and Reinvigorated
During this period away from competition, Lee channeled his energy into establishing the Prodigy Training Center in Hawaii alongside his brother Adrian “The Prodigy” Lee. This new training center allowed both brothers to further develop as martial artists and coaches and process the loss of their sister.
Talking about this time to ONE, Lee said, “I wasn’t just taking the last two years off, resting. I’ve been training harder than ever, and I feel like I’m in the best shape that I’ve ever been in physically and mentally.” This time of intense training and personal growth has reinvigorated Lee’s passion for the sport and his desire to prove himself once again in the cage.
The Challenge Ahead
At ONE Fight Night 26 on December 6, 2024, Lee faces undefeated Turkish challenger Alibeg Rasulov, who brings an impressive 14-0 professional record and wowed audiences in his ONE Championship debut with a unanimous decision victory over former lightweight champion Ok Rae Yoon. Talking to ONE about Rasulov, Lee acknowledges the challenge he faces.
Lee notes that Rasulov is dangerous both on the ground and standing up. But the “Warrior” Lee remains confident in his approach, saying to ONE, “My goal is to go out there and get a first-round finish. I think I could take him down and submit him in one round.” Continuing Lee says, “I want to prove that the time off didn’t affect me,” and he emphasizes that he sees this fight as an opportunity to demonstrate that he’s a “better, faster, stronger, improved version” of himself.
With a threat of an impressive challenger and a resolute comeback from such a tragic loss, the stage is set for an epic showdown at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, where Christian Lee looks to remind the world why he’s called “The Warrior” and even further solidify his legacy in the history of combat sports and mixed martial arts.
