On Saturday January 26th at UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago Illinois live from the United Center two of the most exciting Roufusport Spartans, Erik “Newbreed” Koch and Anthony “Showtime” Pettis look to not only showcase their highlight reel knockout skills but also re-solidify themselves as top contenders in the UFC title picture.
Erik Koch was top contender to face featherweight champion Jose Aldo before a knee injury forced him to withdraw, since then “New Breed” has fully recovered from his injury and is ready to get back to the top spot in the 145lb division. Saturday, Koch will take on Ricardo Lamas to start off the main card in a bout that looks to offer fireworks as both are tough and explosive fighters. With Frankie Edgar next to face Aldo for the 145lb strap, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the featherweight division but hopefully a Koch win puts him right back to his rightful spot at the top of the 145ers.
Later on the card we will see Milwaukee’s hometown son Anthony “Showtime” Pettis taking on, the man who has maybe barked up the wrong tree in opening his mouth to the former WEC lightweight champion Pettis, “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone. Cerrone called out Pettis a few months back saying that “Pettis was dodging him”, this didn’t sit well with “Showtime” and he looks to shut the “Cowboy” up with his fists and maybe a head kick or two. Pettis has been among the top 155ers and many think that was the real reason for Cerrone to call Pettis out in hopes that much like Chael Sonnen, he too could talk himself into UFC title contention. When the time came that Pettis was fully recovered from his shoulder surgery he was quick to oblige Cerrone but plans on letting his ability do most his talking. Like Pettis, Cerrone is a good striker, so this should prove to be an all-out war which with a Pettis win should hopefully move “Showtime” into a spot that could have him fighting the UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, who already has lost a belt to Pettis back when they were in the WEC, before the years end.
